We head home tomorrow after lunch. I have to say that I've had a wonderful time eating new things and making new friendships. Korea is such a beautiful place and the people are so nice and generous. I wish we had more time! My packing is almost done and we have a few activities today like meeting with liasons from the Ministry of Education and then touring an herbal medicine hospital which should be interesting. This evening is our farewell party.

Our next to last day.............

On Sunday we went to Seoul, the capitol and 9th largest city in the world. Should be fun.

Tomorrow is packing and a long ride to Inchon for our flight home.

Faster then a speeding bullet..............

It's hard to believe it has been a month, it is all running together. As I stated we have full days and evenings leaving little time to do much but catch some quick zzzzzzzz's.

We have been here that long and most of us have had only one opportunity to wash clothes. You just have to choose your priorities and seize them.

Brief summary of what we've done with some random pictures.

On the 9th we went to the Barefoot Run/Walk on Mt. Gyejok. Pretty much spent the day climbing a mountain barefoot. Had a beautiful red clay path. At the end there was a concert in the park. From there we had a wine/pizza party with some of our hosts and some previous GSE teams., Great time and food. We had sushi, Pizza Hut pizza, and KFC chicken. A wonderful change and surprise.

On the 10th we visited Sejong. This was to be the new capital of South Korea as desired by the previous president. The present president did not want to make the move and halted the change. The construction is still massive. We were told the cost is $221,000,000,000. $21 billion would be high but we have no way of confirming. We also visited a national park, county administrative offices, a Korean/American War memorial, monastary, a credit union, Biamsa Goblin road, a traditional market, had dinner, and stopped in for a Rotary meeting. Tired just reading it?

The 11th? We visited the YeonGi-Gun agricultural center, Korean United Medicine Company, and the better part of the time at Beartree Park. This park is a wonderworld of plants, animals, and some of the most beautiful land I've ever seen.

On the 12th, Hansan Ramie Fabric Museaum. Ramie is the light looking fabric used in wedding andd funeral garb. It is done by hand and very expensive. Sokokvu wine Pavillion, Leeabok House, the spot the first Bible was introduced to Korea, Sinsungri Reed Field Park, Maryangri Camellia Park, and tried to watch the sunset on the ocean.

The 13th started with a senior living center tour, a trip to the mayor's office, a middle school tour, a drive across plus tour of the longest seawall in the world (Seocheon), a visit to a nursing home (where we stayed for the night), and beach soccer-golf with our host and the mayor as the sun set.

The 14th started with a trip to a traditional village and a concert by a group of young people in traditional garb playing traditional music. Very pretty and relaxing. The we visted a mushroom factory, a tarp factory, went to a traditional market, visited a credit union, had pictures taken in traditional Korean garb, and professional pics made in our GSE outfits. Ended with another great Korean meal and ice cream!!!!

On the 15th visited an elementary school, traqditional market, the busiest place in Daejeon for teenagers (Evening lights and busy streets). The highlight was a professional baseball game between the Hanwha Eagles (our team) and the Kia Tigers. You have never seen so much excitemtn in your life. they ahve a blast. Tickets...$7, you bring in all your own food and beverage. I do not know how they make any money. By the way, we won in a nailbiter.

Today is the 16th and we are on our was to Seoul on the Bullet train or whatever it is called.

Beartree Park

Monastary
Another of Beartree

A traditional home restored and maintain by a professor. We managed to get some free time and the guys went golfing. Towards the latter part of the week, we had the pleasure of having female hosts. This was a nice change since these women really had their act together. We met the Mayor of Yuseong whose wife was the President of the local Rotary club that was hosting us for the day. We visited two nursing homes which the Koreans call "Senior Welfare Centers" and actually had the opportunity to volunteer help. We learned that there are four levels of services and they are based on health and depending on what level of service you receive the government will pay for some of the cost. When I say government I mean insurance, there are no private insurance companies. The ladies treated us to a fabulous lunch with a setting that felt like an antique home and after lunch we had tea. Our host was a professor in tea culture so we learned about tea etiquette. We ended that day with an art performance by Grigio Moiso who is a very famous Italian artist who's style is much like Jackson Pollock. Very interesting!! On Friday we had another female host who was more laid back. She really wanted to make sure we were comfortable. We finally got to visit City Hall and met some really nice women who Lesley had previous contact with through her job. Yesterday was Parent's Day, so we were given the morning off, so Jim and I took the subway to the market which was fun because I got to eat at McDonald's. It was the best Big Mac I'd ever eaten!

Some things we have done but haven't the time to blog right now:
Had a wonderful lunch at one of our Rotarian host's home.
Went shopping at the Eunhaeng-Dong Market
Visited the Chilsung bottling factory, distributes Pepsi products
Experienced a traditional Korean play at the Arts and Culture Museum

<img style="display:block; We started off the day by touring the Korean Nuclear Fuel Institute.

This tour took most of the morning, but was all very interesting. We got to see how fuel cycle rods are made.

After lunch, we presented our club banners to one of the Host Presidents that treated us to lunch at his restaurant. It was all very good!

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S-CvR6t_GOI/AAAAAAAAAGY/UpZ-rxndkwU/s320/IMG_2525.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5467562669982554338" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S-CukCEYmoI/AAAAAAAAAGQ/JQxV_J2UTzs/s320/IMG_2510.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5467561881681566338" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S-CwAW8pFmI/AAAAAAAAAGg/qBtE0kngVro/s320/IMG_2527.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5467563467834201698" />

After lunch we were given some free time!! YAY!!!! The other girls and I went shopping a bit. Later that evening the team was to give our first presentation to one of the local Rotary Clubs that hosted us during the day. Unfortunately our talk was too long. It was lengthy due to having a translator, however we learned from the experience. We also found out that the Rotarians were not really interested in us as individuals or Missouri for the matter, but wanted to know more about our individual clubs that were sponsoring us and Rotary activities. We tried to explain to them about what GSE is and the goals for GSE. They all thought we were Rotarians, for which we are not except Jim. Anyways, our night went long and everyone was hungry by the time we finished talking, so of course what did we do? EAT!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S-CyO7o7-sI/AAAAAAAAAGw/Av9rbR7f93w/s320/IMG_2551.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5467565917225089730" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S-CyOmkd2KI/AAAAAAAAAGo/hn862dHNFl8/s320/IMG_2554.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5467565911569193122" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S-CyPcv4KfI/AAAAAAAAAG4/enPeztAZ4NY/s320/IMG_2561.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5467565926112569842" />

To Start Our Second Week!

Yesterday we started off another week. It was a good one. Rather hot though. The weather has turned warm and humid making wearing nice clothes a hassle, but we will persevere. I do not have any pictures to post as my camera batteries died and I was not able to take any photos however all of my team members have plenty and I will tell them to post. Anyways, we visited a chicken factory much like Tyson back in the USA. It was all very interesting and clean. This factory processes 150,000 chickens per day! It is quite impressive. After the chicken factory we had lunch of course! Our host for the day bought us fresh strawberries that just melted in your mouth. It was just wonderful. After lunch we then proceeded on to the SOJU factory. Soju is basically similar to vodka. However we found out that it is not distilled rather fermented and then diluted with water. We left the factory with three cases of Soju. We gave two of them to our gracious host for which they were very thankful. There are 20 bottles of soju in a case. After that, our hosts took us to a nice park to unwind and sightsee for a bit, then treated us to dinner. We ate Chinese and the restaurant was just adjacent to the World Cup soccer stadium, very huge. Our evening ended early which was great because Lesley and I went to experience a spa bath. Highly recommend, that is if you are not modest. Today is another professional day as we will visit the Atomic Energy Research Institute and finally give a presentation to a local club. Check back soon for an update and hopefully more pictures. Off to start our day.
<img width='1' height='1' This is one of a few national cemeteries across the world honoring solders and patriots. There was a special ceromony going on to honor the persons killed on the ship about a month ago. The Koreans saw how excited we were and realized it meant alot to us. So we assume that we will start getting banners now. I believe we are going to do an exchange this morning. As Jim says, it is all a blur. We are on a fast pace schedule and the Koreans like to make sure of that!! Not a minute goes by that we aren't doing something. I've added some more pictures for your viewing. Oh by the way, that is me with my new style Korean boyfriend. Mr. Shim was the nicest man and was a very gracious host to the team. Our day with his club was wonderful.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S9n9_EdAp9I/AAAAAAAAAE4/dYvMJnL9eZ8/s320/IMG_2122.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465678882759813074" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S9n9-mahSOI/AAAAAAAAAEw/K19LsmL0AAQ/s320/IMG_2137.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465678874696304866" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S9n9-MY5F-I/AAAAAAAAAEo/NB2FMZ8qFFs/s320/IMG_2144.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465678867710154722" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S9n99ABHOnI/AAAAAAAAAEg/SOTqMcCvr68/s320/IMG_2146.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465678847209323122" />

It's all a blur.............................

Lots going, never a dull moment or a moment to think. We leave the hotel at 8 am in the morning and don't usually get back until around 9-10pm. Our hosts are very gracious and it has been fun getting to know them. Like Jim says we have been eating and drinking a lot! Our day yesterday was interesting. We started off at the Buddha museum and learned everything Buddha. Very beautiful! <img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S9baYB0OrII/AAAAAAAAADY/sFBbSgpH6VI/s320/IMG_1897.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464795304199892098" />
After the Buddha museum our host took us to Puri Park. A nice park with family registers and shrines. Each family name has a registry and this park had it listed on a board and recognized with the shrine, also very beautiful! There were many kids there and it saddened me for a bit because I wished my girls were with me. After Puri Park, it started to rain which was kind of uncomfortable for us since we were all in our dress clothes, however the Koreans proceeded to take us to the zoo!
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S9beNknFSQI/AAAAAAAAADo/Ej1hni6OUEs/s320/IMG_1941.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464799522607941890" />
The zoo was very interesting, it was a combination of a zoo, amusement park, and botanical garden all in one! Although miserable, it was fun! Our Korean hosts got us rain parkas and umbrellas. It was just weird seeing all of us in dress clothes walking around in the rain looking at zoo animals! HA! This park was called O-World. <img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S9bf25UWkZI/AAAAAAAAAD4/emgyl_gPtYc/s320/IMG_1963.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464801332052791698" />
After our cold day at O-World, we ended the night with dinner and then proceeded to present our club banners to our host Rotarian president!
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S9bhKek6_SI/AAAAAAAAAEI/Wt9ikEfxtLc/s320/IMG_1979.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464802767983541538" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S9bhJwBH3zI/AAAAAAAAAEA/od4DM9qIsQA/s320/IMG_1978.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464802755485359922" />

Brown Chicken, Brown Cow........there it's done!!

Just a note, Most of the others are taking the pictures, so my shots are limited.
I don't want to repeat here but, in a nutshell this is what has happened since Geumsan.

We are in a very nice hotel right in the center of things. We have spent much time exploring and eating. We toured Chungnam National University. You can see two of the permanent structures at left.

The city and campus are full of cherry blossom trees. It is an extremely clean and beautiful city. Everywhere are parks, gardens, trails, and outside exercise equipment.

After arriving we attended the District conference where everything went well. I do not have any pictures but the others do. I must say this conference is completely different then ours. Laser shows, live entertainment... very high technology.

We were outside and a man started walking around with a siren. I thought he was directing us back in but it was a "civil defense" exercise that is held every week to practice should an invasion come. Everyone must stop working and pay attention.

We have had wonderful meals. Night before last we had "burnt mackerel"(a appetizer). This is where the fish is cooked whole on a grill and you just tear it apart and eat it. Good! Sushi is different her. Basically the fish is pulled out of the tank and we eat it. Big thick slices, no rolled up stuff like at home. You just eat it. Also had sea squirt, a sea slug.

Yesterday for lunch we had fish head soup. Large fish, large jawbone. doesn't look so good but tastes great. This picture is of some of us and our host for the day. Next picture, the soup.

We attended the Cherry Blossom Festival at Gubongsan Mountain. Excellent food and beauty. We had a great time with our hosts.

I can not say enough about our hosts and this country. We have been absolutely taken care of had the best time. I think the team is acclimated to the time now and we are marching on. Today we tour the city.

Mr. Andrews, most clubs here alter the meeting times during the month. Say 2 noon meetings and 2 evening meetings. Kind of nice. One club has 2 regular meetings and 2 "outing" meetings. They go to the movies or the opera. Sounds great to me!

Daejeon City

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S9OXtWNm7uI/AAAAAAAAADQ/8TOsgIt6ZbQ/s320/IMG_1872.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5463877578243108578" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S9OXsiy3UjI/AAAAAAAAADI/RFx5IWCdfPU/s320/IMG_1868.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5463877564440728114" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S9OXsMauk8I/AAAAAAAAADA/PR1TqeDJ3ZQ/s320/IMG_1840.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5463877558433911746" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S9OXrtsab7I/AAAAAAAAAC4/bqiIEdeD-Io/s320/IMG_1805.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5463877550186590130" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S9OXq7GMZUI/AAAAAAAAACw/Xmzvv54w6G4/s320/IMG_1824.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5463877536604513602" />
We are in Daejeon City now, which is a nice change. The hotel is much nicer and has a spa. The hotel is located in the hot springs district which is pretty touristy. You can walk down the road from our hotel and see a park that has a foot spa. We gave our first presentation at the District Convention and it was sort of uncomfortable for us. First off, the computer people uploaded the wrong version of our talk which put Jim into stress overload mode! The presentation room was huge. It felt more like being in a theater or at a broadway show. Plus we had to have a translator. Given all that, I think we did a good job. It seemed everyone liked it. Then we had great buffet style lunch at the Unversity Culinary school. Boy was it good!!! After the convention was over, we had dinner with Mr. Choi and had fresh sushi. Then ended the night at a club just down from our hotel. The club owner is our transportation driver. He and his wife along with our student translator spent the evening talking about American Culture!

Picture, Pictures, Pictures

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S9EJk4MqK4I/AAAAAAAAACo/oeDHUvMChPk/s320/IMG_1760.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5463158352142543746" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S9EJkeZFeTI/AAAAAAAAACg/DV9ymLzl18s/s320/IMG_1732.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5463158345215342898" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S9EJj11iusI/AAAAAAAAACY/-GfGdaabgQ8/s320/IMG_1712.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5463158334328847042" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S9EJjQIvF4I/AAAAAAAAACQ/wu0vxK3yXig/s320/IMG_1700.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5463158324208801666" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S9EJihhoh0I/AAAAAAAAACI/TDCbjDbCog8/s320/IMG_1681.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5463158311696762690" />
I'm just posting some pics of our awesome day yesterday touring Geusam, the Ginseng capital of the world. Located just south of Daejeon. Population approximately 60,000. This is the home of the District Governor. 80% of the gross revenues are from the sale of ginseng (Insam). They grow it and sell it everywhere. This is the ginseng capitol of the world.

We started the day at the "Tomb of Seven Hundred Soldiers". This is a memorial similar to Arlington (much smaller) where 700 soldiers fought off until death most of the Japanese army that invaded. The date, 1592. The soldiers fought to the death much like in the 300 story & Spartacus. We honored them and offered an incense prayer. Very moving.

We visited county offices and met officials. They gave us ginseng tea and a large box of ground ginseng.
We toured................you got it.....the ginseng museum.
The we went to the ..............ginseng market.
We toured the Geumsan museum, much about ginseng.
We visted a large memorial bell that is only rung on new years and the annual...............ginseng festival.
Get the message?

Everything, including the whole economy is ginseng. Very interesting.
We visited and entered a Buddhist temple that we were told was 10,000 yearsold. I beleive it was 1,000 years, but it is in unbeleveable shape in any case.

The highlight for me was visiting a "Retarded Persons" (there words, not mine) home. Very similar to our Sheltered Workshop in that some work and produce products for sale. As in the USA, they are very friendly and love to see people.

The thing that hits you here is the history. In the US we have basically 200 years, here there is 5000, I think.

Our First Meeting with the District Governor

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S9BLCMCqrnI/AAAAAAAAACA/5V7j16TB2zU/s200/IMG_1651.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5462948848964644466" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S9BLBrvnDzI/AAAAAAAAAB4/p3LVYyQikxM/s200/IMG_1659.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5462948840294780722" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S9BLA0gQLHI/AAAAAAAAABw/HiTTcd6d_k0/s200/IMG_1653.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5462948825466416242" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S9BLAIJO9AI/AAAAAAAAABo/HBqqdumrmvs/s200/IMG_1649.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5462948813558707202" />
Our first night was wonderful. We had a formal meeting with the District Governor and presented our gifts. Ho Taek, Kim dined with us and welcomed us to his home city of Geumsan. We met other Rotarians and they were all very kind and honored that we were there experiencing their country. After going through all the formalities we were then treated to a traditional Korean dinner. We tried many different kinds of foods. The main meat was smoked duck which is wrapped in lettuce and sesame leaves with soypaste and vegetable. Very Good! The Koreans love to drink also. I had my first taste of Ginseng wine and a vodka type of drink called "soju". These liquors are very low in alcohol content(<20%) which was good since our glasses were kept full all the time! It was a fairly early evening for us since all of us were very tired from our travels. Lesley and I received compliments on how beautiful we were all night and our younger male member of the team was told he looked like Brad Pitt! Can't get any better than that.

All of us.

Just adding a picture of both teams, incoming and outgoing to South Korea, at Kansas City airport. I just took a walk with the other two girl members of the team and tried to use the phone to call home but could not get an outside line so going to try the SKYPE website. Anyways, already miss my family. Check back later for updates on all of our activities. Korea!! It was hectic at work all day just trying to get everything at a good stopping point before leaving the office for 4 weeks. I've never been away from my family for that long. I believe 2 weeks is the maximum so far. Our team leader also gave us a bit of news that was kind of depressing. It seems that we won't be staying with Host Families, but in a hotel. This has some good and bad points to it. The good being that we will all have some space and privacy with downtime to ourselves, the bad being that we don't get the experience of living like Koreans do and learning a big piece of culture which is a big goal of this trip! So bittersweet! The other team members have a big week ahead of them also, so I'm sure panic has stricken them. I'm pretty sure though that by this weekend panic will turn to excitement and we all get to hangn on for the ride.

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions

Well, we have only 10 days before we leave. I'm full of excitement and anxiety all at the same time. I don't know about the others, but I'm having a hard time trying to decide what kind of clothes to take, how many to take, what kind to take, etc. etc.! Then I have to decide what kind and how big of a suitcase to pack. Just yesterday I consulted with the rest of the team to see what kind of carry on bag everyone was going to bring. Our fearless leader Jim says he is going to use a book bag since his wife has bought him the world's largest suitcase that he can check in. Imagine travelling the world with the world's largest suitcase!!! All the possiblities. Lesley and Emily are going with backpacks, which I have one but it is rather large and I don't want that since I have the tendency to overstuff. And to prove how much of a man our other male team member is, Matt is going to be using a "European Carry All" which we all know is a MAN PURSE! Way to go Matt! It wouldn't be so difficult if there were no weight and size requirements. And then there is the food issue! The flight over to Korea is 14 hours and the airline only feeds you twice during this time. I'm going to have to brings lots of snacks!!! There goes my diet. What say you to the rest of the team? Is anyone having has hard of a time as me making decisions?

Meet The Team

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 239px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pDewG9tCvOs/S7zXEMW7dXI/AAAAAAAAAAM/a07wJ9DqA3M/s320/DSC04826.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5457473315503043954" />
The team departs for South Korea on Monday, April 19th from the Kansas City International Airport.
